Autumn is traditionally the off-season, time to relax and do some riding away from racing. It can also be wet, cold and gets dark early. But enough of that – the answer is more xc! But this time the autumn xc is all about fun.
There are 2 local xc series here – the XC Rampage based at Checkendon and the Gorrick Autumn Classics. Fred and Edith raced round 1 and 2 of the XC Rampage and Fred had a crack at round 2 of the Gorrick Autumn Classics at Crowthorne Wood.
The first Rampage race saw Edith ride hard, but unfortunately held up by a first lap pile up, and came in 4th. Fred came in 6th in his race after a bad start. Lots to work on! Rampage 2 saw better starts by both and Edith was rewarded with a 3rd and Fred just missing out on a podium coming in 4th.
We then had a half-term family trip to the 7 Stanes in the Scottish borders and spent a fun week riding the fantastic all-weather trails at Newcastleton and Glentress. These are great trails and well recommended for any level of rider.
On our return, Fred was keen for a Gorrick Classic. These are for over 8’s and are raced over a long ¾ adult lap. Fred got a good start and was away in 2nd place. Things then went wrong for all the kids after that though! Unfortunately a family out for a walk sabotaged the course markings and most of the kids got lost. Riders, marshalls and parents got them back on track and they all finished, but the race was rightly declared null and void.
That’s it now for xc in 2016. Well done to all the Pedal 2 Pedal racers and bring on the 2017 xc season.
