Pedal 2 Pedal headed to the very popular Torq in Your Sleep race weekend at Minley Manor on the final bank holiday weekend of the summer. Our racers were Fred in the 6-7 year’s race, Karen in the 12 hour vet female solo and Hannah in the 12 hour female solo.
All the kids races were on Saturday. Fred was in the age 6-7 year old race. This comprised 2 laps of a ¾ mile circuit of fireroad, singletrack, a tough climb and fast descent back to the arena.
Fred started in 3rd place and quickly took the lead on the first fireroad. Second and third placed riders were close behind though with a constant gap through the singletrack. Fred then extended the lead on the climb and came through to start lap 2 with a 15 metre lead. A small crash exiting the singletrack saw the lead tumble again, but Fred again extended on the climb and came in to win with a comfortable 20 metre lead. Well done Fred.
The rest of Saturday was spent socialising, relaxing and pre-riding the 8mile adult course, with Fred getting a lap in too with Karen.
Hannah and Martyn turned up early on Sunday to set up the pits before course practise with Fred sneaking in another quick lap. The race started at noon with Hannah and Karen getting a good start.
Karen led the vet ladies into lap 2 with a very quick opening lap. Karen wasn’t feeling too well before the race, but seemed fast at this point. The following laps saw steadier times as the race settled down with Karen in 2nd place. A few longer pit-stops for food saw some more good laps, but after 9 ½ hours, Karen felt ill again and climbed off.
This was enough to seal 3rd place. Well done Karen.
The rain luckily held off for the race, and the course rode well for the duration. All the best bits of Minley were in and ridden in the best direction. We all caught up with lots of friends and with a huge turn-out of children, plenty of play was had. A great last weekend of the summer.
Well done Gorrick for another great Torq in Your Sleep.
